UEMC was the main facilities contractors for Kuala Lumpur's Light Rail Transit System 2 (LRT 2). With a length of 30 km, the LRT 2 is the world's longest fully automated driverless rail system. UEMC's scope of work in the RM4.35 billion project, involved the construction of 22 km of elevated guideway, 2.5 km at grade section, 20 LRT stations of which two are located underground, and 300 metres of cut and cover tunnels. With the LRT 2 traversing the most congested part of the city centre, its construction posed major engineering and construction challenges, setting new standards for the Malaysian construction industry.
