CIVIL ENGINEERING

BUILDING
Costain is a major builder in UK, undertaking a variety of multi-discipline
contracts through a network of regional bases, each operating as
a local contractor within its defined geographical area. Traditional,
design & build, and management forms of contracts are carried out
in the commercial, retail, health, educational, leisure, public
and industrial sectors.
ASSET MANAGEMENT
Costain has established itself as a leader in the Asset Management
market in particular the water sector. The company has, in joint
venture, been awarded long-term contracts with Thames Water (approx
value GBP140 ,million), Yorkshire Water (approx value GBP65 million),
Wessex Water (approx value GBP45million), Southern Water (approx
GBP75million) and United Utilities (approx value GBP250 million).
This work involves clients who fully understand the value of partnering
relationships and provides steady, long-term income. As a consequence
the Company wants to increase Asset Management from its current
30 per cent share of total business to 50 per cent by 2003.
PFI
Costain has been involved in PFI since its' inception and completed
one of the very first PFI projects - the 800 place category B prison
in Bridgend, Wales. Since then we have had successes in both the
health and Defence sectors and continue to target particular projects

Costain International Limited is responsible for the management
of local Costain partnership and associated companies in the Middle
East states, Malaysia, Egypt, Zimbabwe and Nigeria - where in
January 2000 they took over the management of Costain (West Africa)
PLC - an associated company, quoted on the Nigerian Stock Exchange
and with a fifty year history quality building and civil engineering
work in Nigeria.

Costain is also providing project and construction management
services internationally. This has been a particularly successful
way of exporting their construction expertise to countries with
indigenous construction industries requiring up to date technical

In Egypt, Costain has an established local company - costain Samcrete
Project Management, providing construction management services
to a number of major commercial, retail and hotel projects in
Cairo and Hurgadha. In Nigeria Costain International is construction
manager for the new Lagos Hilton Hotel.
