KUALA LUMPUR,  December 8 – Engineering-based conglomerate, UEM Group Berhad has  named Mohd Razin Ghazali as the new Managing Director of its wholly owned  subsidiary, UEM Builders Berhad.

Dato’  Izzaddin Idris, Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of UEM Group  said, “I am pleased  to announce the appointment of Mohd Razin who joined UEM Builders in August  this year. Time spent in the last three months has allowed him to form an insight  into the company, make a full assessment of our projects and the various challenges  we currently face.

“With those  insights, Mohd Razin’s tasks will be to chart and realise growth plans as well as transform UEM Builders. I believe it can be  achieved given his vast knowledge and experience, strong network of contacts as  well as a robust understanding he has of the inner workings of the engineering  and construction industry domestically and the international markets we have targeted. In addition, he will also closely monitor our on-going projects to  ensure that they are completed and delivered as planned.”

Commenting  on the opportunities for UEM Builders, Mohd Razin said, “The recently introduced Economic  Transformation Programme (ETP) and its many  strategic development and construction projects will provide tremendous  opportunities for UEM Builders and other construction players especially when  it will be awarded via competitive bids and in an open, transparent manner.

“The  pressure is on for UEM Builders but we are already setting ourselves apart where  in addition to offering an Engineering & Construction (E&C) services,  we are also providing clients with Asset & Facility Management (AFM)  services – two of our core businesses.

“With  E&C and AFM capabilities, we will be able to enhance our  project delivery, achieve operational efficiency, and promote better  cooperation internally and with the client. Our role will not stop at planning and construction, we will  adopt an end-to-end asset lifecycle method to manage the development of the  infrastructure assets. We have an upper hand with this approach as we have  renowned AFM providers in our stable namely — Opus Group Berhad, Opus  International Consultants Ltd., Faber Group Berhad and Propel Berhad,” said Mohd  Razin.

Izzaddin  added, “This change is necessary to transform the operation and work culture of  UEM Builders and allow it to remain relevant as well as competitive. We are  confident it can be achieved under the leadership of Mohd Razin who will be  assisted by a team of capable personnel.”
